Treating timber, fighting fungus

Treating timber, fighting fungus

When wood is subjected to moisture for a prolonged period of time, fungal decay can easily occur. Timber rot is never a good thing, as it reduces the strength of the wood’s composition and acts as a breeding ground for mould spores, which are damaging to physical health and mental wellbeing. Our mission is to provide the highest standard of timber treatment on any scale, ensuring that the rot is fully removed and a system is in place to prevent its return.

Wet rot vs. dry rot – what’s the difference?

Wet rot vs. dry rot – what’s the difference?

Wet rot is a common problem in rooms that are damp or prone to leaks. The fungi usually remains confined to the area of timber that is actually wet, which makes it easier to remove and treat.

Meanwhile, despite the name, dry rot occurs when exceptionally high levels of moisture are present in the timber. This type of fungi can spread through masonry, plaster and other building materials to find additional food sources, making it a serious problem for structural integrity within a property. As a result, dry rot requires extensive specialist treatment to remove it entirely and ensure that it doesn’t reoccur in the future.

Identification and treatment

Identification and treatment

Both dry rot and wet rot require expert analysis and identification before any type of work is carried out, otherwise the problem can arise again due to inadequate treatment. Our CSRT qualified specialists are ready to provide a detailed diagnostic inspection, followed by a clear explanation of how we will effectively remove the problem.
