The UK is a very wet, damp and humid place, which is why effective and reliable waterproofing is required in order to transform old and disused below-ground areas into warm, dry and comfortable living environments. For instance, if you’d like to create a wine cellar or turn a basement into an additional living space, waterproofing is the place to start.
There are two main types of waterproofing systems that our experts apply to existing structures:
This method is referred to as “Type A” (as defined in BS8102) and involves multi-coat renders, cement-based coating, bituminous paints or epoxy coatings. The system is applied to clean walls and floors to create an unbroken barrier to water, which is held in place by floor screeds, renders, plasters or other “loading coats”.
Also referred to as “Type C”, this waterproofing system uses pre-formed high-density drainage membranes, channels and sumps. Together, these techniques ensure that any water entering the structure is directed back out in a controlled and managed way.
