Damp control is about much more than rising damp and damp proof courses.
While the problem can, of course, be caused by rising damp, there are a number of other factors to consider – rainwater ingress, condensation, hygroscopic salt contamination, or a combination of these things.
What can be causing your damp problem?
There are a number of factors that can be causing your problem.
Rising damp is simply water from the ground that rises through the bricks of a wall, most often caused by a breakdown of an old damp proof course. It can happen on any internal or external wall that is built on a foundation.
Rainwater ingress can be caused by defective rainwater goods, perished mortar beds, defective roof coverings, and high external ground levels to name a few.
Condensation can be caused by a lack of, or inadequate, ventilation. It is one of the most common causes of dampness yet in many cases can be difficult to diagnose.
How do we determine what is causing your damp problem?
We use a range of equipment including moisture meters, thermal imaging, anemometers and more, combined with their experience and knowledge.
Our surveyors are all CSRT (Certified Surveyor in Remedial Treatment) qualified, ensuring that they have the necessary knowledge and skills to diagnose your problem accurately. Failure to accurately diagnose the problem can result in multiple failed treatments at great cost and inconvenience.
